Natural fibres in decorative lamps

Nature is the primordial living environment of the human being. Therefore, every element that makes us reconnect with those sensations linked to our primal instinct, lighting, sounds, smells, and of course, natural materials have an impact on our parasympathetic nervous system,, reducing stress levels and encouraging creativity.

This reality has given rise to biophilic design, a design that goes beyond the merely aesthetic and seeks to evoke nature through the use of natural materials, generating an unconscious feeling of well-being. Together with the search for greater sustainabilityin design, it constitutes a highly topical area of reflection for architecture and lighting professionals.

Residential and hospitality projects have been freely integrating natural fibres into their interiors for years. Materials such as rattan, wicker and linen offer numerous possibilities of application in all types of furniture and decorative elements: wardrobes, chairs, rugs, mirrors, home textiles, lighting... The difference is that they have gone from being applied in purely functional elements, in a rustic or country style, to being specifically chosen for their evocative character.

Today, natural materials are a recognised source of inspiration for designers and interior designers because they are sustainable, recyclable and versatile, as well as having a proven impact on the well-being of users.

Wicker, for example, is one of the most biodegradable materials and needs little time to regrow, which ensures its permanence.

Beech wood has the advantage of being a material of European origin. It allows for proximity production, and brings warmth and elegance to any environment.

Natural materials - not only in residential or contract environments

The education, office and healthcare sectors, as well as the hospitality and residential sectors, have become aware of the benefits of natural materials and have begun to incorporate them into their spaces.

For example, the recent use of wood in dental clinics stands out, a trend that makes it possible to escape from the impersonal white sanitary style to design an interior design that is more welcoming and generates more calm. Decorative lights designed with natural materials are a novelty in waiting rooms and create a more pleasant environment, which helps to limit patient stress.

    Natural materials and lighting

A good lighting strategy should not only pursue adequate lighting from a purely functional point of view.

With this in mind, the lighting industry has decided to "dress up" technical efficiency with natural materials, in order to enhance its positive impact from a different angle. It thus offers designers, interior designers and architects the possibility of integrating a clearly decorative dimension into their lighting design.

Novolux Lighting opts for natural materials

Novolux Lighting has made the desire to recover nature for the sake of better well-being of the user into a concept of its own, as well as more productivity and health and an increased recyclability.

Several of its ranges reflect this intention and present highly efficient and highly decorative proposals that achieve a leading role in the spatial ambience of all kinds of projects. These include the VIETNAM, THAIS and NATURAL ranges, launched in early 2023, under its Exo Lighting brand.

These three new ranges add to its already iconic FISH and TWIST collections, recognised by professionals for the originality of their beech wood and plywood designs, respectively.

Here are the most important features of these collections, starting with the newest:

•The VIETNAM range: These pendant lamps are available in various sizes and finishes. They are made of steel and have a wicker shade, available in two finishes, light wicker or dark wicker. They are suitable for both indoors and outdoors, in residential environments as well as in hotels and restaurants. Its finely braided shade is designed to create lighting that provides soft shadows, adding elegance and ambience.

•The THAIS collection: It updates the design of conventional pendant lamps, using natural textures such as raffia, which is highly biodegradable.

•The NATURAL family: It consists of pendant lamps, made of steel and braided wicker and available in 3 sizes, both in light and dark wicker. With these you will achieve a warm and evocative atmosphere.

Do you prefer wood for your project? We invite you to rediscover two collections that stand out for their materiality and the strength of their design.

•Do you know the TWIST range?: Made of plywood, it is inspired by the sinuous architecture of Zaha Hadid and features a spectacular and sensual exterior geometry. It was designed by Nacho Timón and was one of the 5 finalists for the Venetian Smart Lighting Award 2021 in the category: "Special prize: best lighting application". It is available in table and floor lamps and pendant versions.
