Case study: Xalet del Nin

Located in front of the sea and a few minutes from the centre of Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona) is the Xalet del Nin, a 1913 venue designed by the architect Josep Font i Gumà.

The construction of this Villa was commissioned by the Ferrer Nin family, for the son of the then mayor of Barcelona, who, together with his large family, wanted a residence far from the unhealthy atmosphere of the early twentieth century Barcelona.

In 2019, the venue was refurbished, preserving its original essence and architecture, and maintaining the details of the building, which are a mix of modernism and Catalan noucentisme.

    The lighting

    At Novolux Lighting, we have been able to collaborate in this project by illuminating the entire exterior of the Xalet with products from our Cristher and Dopo

    • Lynn: a RGB underwater spotlight used to illuminate the fountain at the main entrance, making it stand out;
    • Lisboa: a spotlight that provides accent lighting in different areas of the perimeter, especially illuminating different plants of the garden;
    • Sofia: this recessed floor lamp is used to wash the façades. Spread throughout the venue, these lamps highlight the Xalet's textures and emphasise the different architectural elements;
    • Estambul: the Estambul recessed floor lamps are used to highlight the columns and stone flowerpots in and around the main entrance. The lighting effect created provides a dramatic air to the space;
    • Corten steel bollard: this bollard was specially developed as a result of a close cooperation with the venue to obtain a bollard fully customised to the Xalet's taste;
    • Corten steel flowerpot: likewise, this flowerpot was also specially developed with the property to obtain a product fully customised to the Xalet's taste;
    • Dado: this technical spotlight is used for the general lighting of the entire area under the pergola, one of the main areas where banquets and parties are held;
    • Rima: these floor washlights are used to illuminate the stairs that lead to the main swimming pool;
    Novolux Lighting
    • LED Strip: the perimeter of the planters is illuminated with LED strips. Volumes are highlighted while creating a soft lighting effect on the floor, causing a somewhat weightlessness effect;
    • Bambola: this spotlight is used together with the LED strips in the flowerpots to highlight, with accent lighting, the top of the olive trees;
    • Litta: this table lamp is used to reinforce the lighting of tables and other special spots.
